I think the problem now is it used to be that extraordinarily stupid individuals used to be contained to there own community and an individual area effective radius of a couple of square miles.  Most communities had at least one, but as one person out of a hundred it wasn't such a big deal.  Now, they can form global collectives where they work for a common stupid goal.  It'd be one thing if all these people were just organizing around a passion for weird old Japanese vehicles,  to take a random example,  but instead are trying to impact the lives of millions around the globe.  It's an interesting time at best..
